The mission of this organization is to provide children with disabilities books and buddies featuring characters just like them.
You might ask, why did I decide to begin this endeavor? And the answer is simple: I saw a need, and God told me to use my talent and ability to fill that need.
Well, what exactly was the need I saw? When I took my son to Arkansas Childrens Hospital, we met with a team of doctors. We spent over 6 hours in a small room, while a team of 8 plus doctors took turns visiting with us. Once one left our room, it wasn’t too long before another was knocking on the door to talk to us some more. During these appointments, I was given important information relevant to my son’s condition and how we were going to move forward; however, it was a challenge keeping my 4-year-old entertained for that amount of time. Also, not one individual sought to explain to my son his diagnosis in terms he could understand. I thought to myself, “You know, I wish someone had come in and talked to my son on his level to explain to him his diagnosis.” That is what sparked the idea of creating a children’s book, featuring a character just like my son. And, that’s just what I did. I wrote the book “Super Ears.” It features a little boy who
has unilateral hearing loss, and he has to wear hearing aids to better hear the world around him.
